Lingkod Lapid: Senator Lito Lapid distributed family food packs to 750 fishermen in Limay, Bataan this past Thursday, August 22, 2024.
In his message, Lapid emphasized the importance of providing even a modest amount of aid to the fishermen who fell victim to the recent oil spill caused by a sunken vessel at Lamao Point, Limay, Bataan.
Lapid expressed hope that the food packs would, in some way, help the fishermen’s families meet their basic needs during this difficult time.
On July 25, the MT Terranova, carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel, sank off the coast of Lamao Point, Limay.
By August 6, Bataan Governor Joet Garcia declared a state of calamity due to the oil spills caused by the sinking of three oil tankers, which affected 28,000 fishermen and deprived them of their livelihood. The spills originated from the MT Terranova in Limay, the MT Jason Bradley, and the MV Mirola 1 in Mariveles, Bataan.
The beneficiaries warmly welcomed Lapid and, with tearful gratitude, thanked him for the timely assistance they received.
Limay Mayor Nelson David, Vice Mayor Richie Jason David, Barangay Chairman Nestor Nabaunag, and the Sangguniang Bayan members graciously received Senator Lapid, commending his swift action and personal delivery of aid to the fishermen who lost their livelihoods due to the oil spills in their town.
Earlier, the “Supremo ng Batang Quiapo” also distributed 1,000 family food packs to fishermen in Mariveles, Bataan on August 21, the Senator’s own birthday.
Mariveles Mayor AJ Concepcion personally sought Lingkod Lapid/Senator Lapid’s assistance for the fishermen in his town.
