Sen. Lito Lapid Pushes for Safety Check on Pinoy Workers in Taiwan
Senator Lito Lapid has advised the Manila Economic Cooperation Office (MECO) in Taiwan to promptly assess the condition of Filipinos there following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck on April 3, 2024, Wednesday.
According to Sen Lito Lapid, it is imperative for MECO officials to ensure the safety and welfare of our compatriots, especially the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) employed in Taiwan.
The Philippines ranks third as the largest source of foreign workers in Taiwan, trailing behind Indonesia and Vietnam.
Based on data from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), as of 2021, the number of Filipinos working in Taiwan has reached 147,000.
