The following weekend will be another long one.
After a month of fasting, Muslims worldwide will celebrate the completion of Ramadan on Friday, April 21, with a national holiday designated by President Marcos.
As stated in Proclamation 201, issued by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin yesterday, declaring April 21 a regular holiday throughout the Philippines is essential “to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the forefront of national consciousness.”
According to the declaration, everyone in the Philippines is welcome to observe and celebrate the holiday with their Muslim neighbors. The commission representing Filipino Muslims has advocated for the establishment of the holiday.
